Rory Daniel McIlroy, born 4 May 1989, is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland who competes on both the European and PGA Tours.
He is a former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking, having held that position for more than 100 weeks during his career.

Gerry McIlroy, his father, was a bartender, and Rosie McIlroy worked at a factory. Gerry Jr., his older brother, is his only sibling.
According to family legend, he received a new golf club as a gift, was shown the appropriate grip by his father.
