Oscar Gutiérrez, born December 11, 1974, is an American professional wrestler better known by his ring name Rey Mysterio.
He is now signed with WWE and works on the SmackDown brand.
Rey Mysterio is widely recognized as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.
He is credited with popularizing cruiserweight wrestling and is also one of the most recognizable Lucha libre wrestlers in the world.
Early life and Education
Oscar Gutiérrez was born on December 11, 1974, in Chula Vista, California, a San Diego suburb in the United States.
He still lives in Chula Vista.
Mysterio started his education at Montgomery High School, but because he like wrestling, he joined the wrestling platform when he was 14 years old.
He acquired his wrestling training from his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr, where he not only learned the fundamentals of wrestling but also trained as a high-flying wrestler.
In 1991, Mysterio was awarded “Most Improved Wrestler” in Mexico while wrestling as Colibrí.
He got his name, Rey Mysterio Jr. from his uncle only during his early phase of wrestling

Career
Mysterio, the nephew of Rey Misterio Sr., began his professional wrestling career on the independent circuit in 1989, at the age of 14, before joining Asistencia Asesora y Administración (AAA) in 1992.
Mysterio joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1996 after a brief stint with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).
In WCW, Mysterio helped popularize lucha libre in the United States, which contributed to the rise of cruiserweight wrestling divisions.
He won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times and the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times.
He later performed for the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) before joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2002.
In WWE, Mysterio won the Cruiserweight Championship three times, the World Heavyweight Championship twice, and the Intercontinental Championship twice.
The United States Championship twice, the WWE Championship once, and the Tag Team Championship four times.
Mysterio left WWE in 2015 to wrestle in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and AAA before returning to WWE in 2018.
He won the U.S. Championship twice and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship once with his son Dominik.
In all, Mysterio has held 24 championships in WWE and WCW. (including three world championships).
In addition, he is WWE’s 21st Triple Crown and Grand Slam champion, the 2006 Royal Rumble match winner.
Rey Mysterio has headlined multiple WWE pay-per-view events.
He is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Personal Life
Gutierrez and his wife Angie have two children; a son, Dominik, born April 5, 1997, and a girl, Aalyah, born August 20, 2001.
On his right and left biceps, he has tattoos of his children’s names, tattoos devoted to his wife, Angie, and a tattoo with the initials EG for his best friend and fellow wrestler, Eddie Guerrero, who died in 2005.
He is a devout Catholic who frequently crosses himself before matches and has various religious tattoos on his body.
The most prominent of which is a cross on his chest tied to rosaries, as well as other crosses and allusions to God.
Gutiérrez is from a wrestling family that includes his son Dominik Gutiérrez, uncle Rey Misterio Sr., and cousins El Hijo de Rey Misterio and Metalika.
