Patrick Lavon Mahomes II, born September 17, 1995, is an American football quarterback for the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs (NFL).
He was the son of former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Pat Mahomes and played college football and baseball at Texas Tech University.
Patrick gave up baseball after his rookie year to focus exclusively on football.
He led all NCAA Division I FBS players in numerous categories during his junior year, including passing yards (5,052) and total touchdowns (53).
Early life and Education
Patrick Mahomes was born in Tyler, Texas, on September 17, 1995.
Pat Mahomes, his father, was a former Major League Baseball pitcher, and Randi Martin, his mother, was a stay-at-home mom.
Mahomes played football, baseball, and basketball at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas.
Mahomes was a quarterback who was heavily recruited by colleges all throughout the country.
He eventually picked Texas Tech University, where he was a Red Raider from 2014 to 2016.
He set multiple school and NCAA records during his time at Texas Tech, including the single-game throwing yardage record of 734 yards versus Oklahoma in 2016.
Mahomes, in addition to football, was a pitcher and outfielder for Texas Tech.
He was picked in the 37th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers, but he chose to focus on his football career instead.

Career
Patrick Mahomes was taken as the 10th overall choice in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.
He spent his debut season as a backup to quarterback Alex Smith, but after Smith was traded to the Washington Football Team, he took over as the starter in 2018.
Mahomes made multiple NFL records in his debut season as a starter, including becoming the only quarterback in history to throw for over 5,000 yards in both college and the NFL in his first full season as a starter.
He was also selected NFL MVP in 2018 after leading the Chiefs to their first AFC Championship game in 25 years.
Mahomes proceeded to perform admirably in subsequent seasons, leading the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl berths in 2020 and 2021.
He was named Super Bowl MVP after helping the franchise win its first championship in 50 years in Super Bowl LIV.
Throughout his career, Mahomes has received numerous individual distinctions, including two Pro Bowl choices and two First-Team All-Pro selections.
In 2020, he signed a 10-year contract deal with the Chiefs, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Personal Life
Patrick Mahomes’ wife is Brittany Matthews, whom he met in high school in Texas.
The couple announced their engagement in September 2020 and married in February 2021.
Sterling Skye Mahomes, their daughter, was born in February 2021.
Mahomes is also involved in humanitarian endeavors, including the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, which he established in 2019.
The foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of children in Kansas City and beyond, with a particular emphasis on health, well-being, and education.
In addition to his charitable activities, Mahomes has various endorsement relationships with brands like Adidas, Oakley, and State Farm.
