Giacomo Agostini, born on June 16, 1942, is an Italian multi-time world champion Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He was nicknamed Ago, and he won 122 Grand Prix races as well as 15 World Championships.
There were 68 wins and eight titles in the 500 cc class, with the rest in the 350 cc class. The AMA referred to him as “…probably the greatest Grand Prix rider of all time” for his accomplishments over a 17-year career.

He was born in Brescia, Italy, on June 16, 1942.
Agostini grew up in Lovere, a tiny town in Italy’s Lombardy area. Agostini grew interested in bikes at a young age because his father ran a motorcycle repair company.
Giacomo Agostini began racing in 1961, competing in several regional races throughout Italy.
He did not attend college, but he did serve in the Italian army during his required military service in the early 1960s.
Agostini supported himself as a motorcycle technician during the early years of his racing career. He later went on to become a full-time professional racer.

Career
Agostini began his professional racing career in 1964, riding in the Motorcycle Grand Prix World Championship’s 350cc and 500cc classes.
Agostini rose quickly to prominence in motorcycle racing, winning his first world championship in the 350cc class in 1968.
In his career, Agostini won 15 world titles, including eight in the 500cc class and seven in the 350cc class. He also won 123 Grand Prix races, making him the all-time Grand Prix motorcycle racer.
Giacomo Agostini was noted for his precise and fluid riding style, as well as his ability to adjust to changing track conditions.
After retiring from motorcycle racing in 1977, Agostini continued to be involved in the sport as a team manager and ambassador.

Agostini was married to Maria Grazia Buccella, an Italian actress, from 1971 to 1980. The couple have two children together.
After retiring from racing, Agostini worked in a variety of businesses, including owning a motorcycle dealership and consulting for a tire manufacturer.
He has also participated in charitable activities, such as raising funds for medical research and children’s charities.
Giacomo Agostini enjoys skiing, tennis, and collecting old automobiles and motorcycles in his spare time.
